ROLE OVERVIEW
The Senior Graphic Designer is an integral part of the RLSS UK team, driving creativity that supports both our charitable mission and commercial success. Responsible for managing a Graphic Designer, this role ensures the delivery of impactful designs across all areas of RLSS UK, helping achieve the goals set out in our strategic framework.
Working closely with the Senior Head of Communications & Marketing and teams across the Society, you will:
• Champion brand stewardship by safeguarding and evolving RLSS UK’s visual identity, ensuring consistency and integrity across all touchpoints.
• Contribute to brand strategy, aligning design outputs with organisational objectives and audience needs.
• Develop and maintain a strong brand identity that reflects RLSS UK’s values and mission, reinforcing our position as the leading authority on water safety and drowning prevention.
• Create designs that not only communicate who we are but also actively help save lives by inspiring communities, promoting lifesaving education, and supporting revenue-generating activities that sustain our charitable work.
• Deliver creative solutions that resonate with diverse audiences, inform stakeholders, and captivate supporters, making a tangible difference to water safety and drowning prevention.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design
• Creation of design work relating to marketing new and existing commercial and charity products, campaigns, and services.
• Creation of designs and finished artwork for RLSS UK’s publications, manuals, training resources, and marketing materials.
• Creation of the RLSS UK’s bi-annual magazine – Lifesavers – including:
o Designing compelling magazine features and publication covers
o Developing and maintaining templates, processes, and production procedures to ensure efficient workflows and timely delivery
o Preparing magazines technically for print
• Creation of designs and finished artwork for marketing and sales materials/tools.
• Line management responsibility for a Graphic Designer, including performance and development, assigning day-to-day tasks and projects, and providing guidance and support.
• Support all Directorates with ad-hoc design work as required.
• Design all materials in line with RLSS UK brand guidelines.
• Oversee the RLSS UK’s brand and sub-brands, ensuring consistency and correct use.
• Periodically review RLSS UK brand and brand guidelines to ensure they progress according to the organisation’s needs.
General
• At all times, demonstrate and uphold the Society’s values and behavioural standards.
• Ensure compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 by complying with internal information governance policies and maintaining up-to-date documentation as part of RLSS UK’s compliance programme.

KEY TASKS
Design & Branding
• Create logos, identification marks/icons, infographics, and design concepts.
• Design dual-branded materials for partnership arrangements.
• Periodically review RLSS UK brand and brand guidelines to ensure they progress according to the organisation’s needs.
• Update illustrations of existing characters and create new, diverse characters for campaigns.
• Animate characters and scenes for charity campaigns (e.g., Drowning Prevention Week).
Marketing & Campaign Assets
• Design digital and print assets for campaigns, including concepts to reach new audiences.
• Create engaging visual and digital content for social media channels.
• Design digital adverts, banners, and social media graphics.
• Design headers and graphics for targeted emails.
• Design e-newsletters.
Print & Merchandise
• Design printed resources: proposals, contracts, leaflets, factsheets, advertisements, posters, banners.
• Design printed merchandise and branded clothing (event T-shirts, leisurewear, Teemill charity clothing range, clipboards).
• Design event programmes (e.g., Honours, Speeds, National Lifesaving Championships).
• Liaise with external printers for short-run literature, pull-up banners, etc.
Publications & Reports
• Design reports (e.g., RLSS UK’s Annual Report, National Drowning Report, Impact Report, All-Party Parliamentary Group Updates).
• Create RLSS UK’s bi-annual magazine Lifesavers.
Qualification & Certification Materials
• Create manuals, technical documents, and certificates.
• Design and update marketing resources for qualifications, awards, candidates, trainers, and instructors.
• Design materials for community awards.
Website & Digital Support
• Support the Communications and Marketing team by creating and updating website graphics as required.
Events & Fundraising
